There is substantial evidence that educational and behavioral interventions can improve the long term outcomes for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However the effectiveness of these therapies are dependent on the amount of time spent with trained clinicians which a significant number of families are unable to either access or provide. Therefore, an intervention method that can improve the time and cost effectiveness of early intervention would provide a large benefit to the community.
TOBY (Therapy Outcomes By You) Playpad is an ipad application (app) developed by a team of computer scientists, psychologists and speech pathologists. The TOBY app may provide an affordable and easily accessible intervention method to supplement existing therapy.
The TOBY trial is a multisite randomized controlled trial that aims to determine the effectiveness of the TOBY Playpad app as a complement to early behavioral intervention and to examine the attitudes and beliefs of parents towards TOBY as an intervention method.
